Yuzhnouralsk is a young city founded on the river Uvelka not far from Yuzhnouralskaya power station. It is situated on the eastern slope of the South Urals on the river Uvelka 7 km away from the railway station Nizhneuvelskaya.  

Yuzhnouralsk is surrounded by mixed forests (birch, pine, aspen). The places are very beautiful in all seasons of the year. That is why there are a lot of resort areas, children’s camps and other sanatoriums around the city. Some of them, for instance, sanatorium “Ural”, are famous on the world scale.

On the bank of the reservoir of the Yuzhnouralskaya power station grows a pine forest, which is considered to be a nature sanctury. The ecological situation is normal; there are no catastrophes, only water changes its color during the spring floods as in any other Russian city.  The climate is favorable for gardening that allows to grow such exotic fruit as grapes, melons and watermelons.  

 

City’s economy

Yuzhnouralsk is the city of power and ceramic industries of the South Ural. The most famous South Ural porcelain, as well as insulators and instruments for radio industry are produced there.

The leading branches of industry are machine-building and metal-working, food, glass and porcelain-faience industries, industry of building materials.

In 2001 industry comprised 87,4%, agriculture – 0,2%, building – 3,3%, transport and communications – 4,9%, trade and public catering – 0,2% in the structure of production.
