Verchneuralsk

Verchneuralsk is the oldest city in the Chelyabinsk region. It was founded as the Verchneyaickaya fortress in 1735.

It is situated on the Ural river (before 1775 this river was called Yaik), which represents the border line between Europe and Asia. The city was one of the Orenburg Cossack forces centers.

Nowadays Verchneuralsk is among the smallest cities of the region. It is however famous for its historic and cultural monuments.
