Trehgorny Settelments of Chelyabinsk region
Emblem Flag

One of the youngest and most confidential cities of the region is situated on the river Yuryuzan not far from the old city with the same name. The history of foundation of Zlatoust-36, kept in absolute secrecy for many years, has a lot in common with the history of appearance of all closed cities, created by two most cruel departments of the socialist power - the Ministry of Defense and the Mininstry of central macine-building. All the interests were focused on the main object, that is the enterprise. Choosing the place for the establishment of the most conspiratorial production the creators wanted to hide it as far from others as possible. That is why they also hid the future city in the Ural taiga mountains. There it grew among the foothills, sometimes descending to the valley, sometimes climbing up the hills.

The construction of the plant did not last long. Only during the summer 1952 the plank roads were built, as well as two bridges over the Yuryuzan, and by the end of the year – temporary barracks, a store, a bathhouse, a club, a power supply line, a staging post and a concrete-grout group. The city, born from a plant village and continuously developing due to the growing production, depended on the plant’s management until the beginning of 1990s. It was even called “Volodin’s property” by the surname of the first director of the instrument-making plant Konstantin Arsen’evich Volodin.
