Bakal is the miners’ city located in the Satka region. It is known as the center of Bakal iron ore deposits; the ore has been extracted here for about two and a half centuries.

The city of Bakal is situated in the taiga forests on the western slope of the South Urals, between the Suleya and Bolshaya Suka ridges. Bakal was founded on the basis of the several miners' settlements which  joined together to form a village near the Bakal iron ore deposit situated at the upper reaches of the river Bakal.

 

Sights

 There are historic studies and local studies museums. The picturesque natural object - cliff Shichan - is situated near the city.

 

Economy

 Bakal is the center of a big iron ore area. This fact is the reason for narrow specialization of the city’s industry in mining and concentrating of iron ore.

The biggest enterprises of the city are the mining equipment repairing plant and the branch of the Zlatoust sewing factory. The production of ballast is also developed.
